Flashback Friday Challenges - Cancelled

Hello friends!
Just wanted to make a quick post for you today to let you know that I have decided to "cancel" the Flashback Friday challenges.  :(

I guess I wasn't ready to hit the "big time" with keeping up with my own challenge! LOL!
Although I feel fine to continue my own line of "Flashback Friday" posts and post a card or project, I am finding it very difficult to do "research" every time I make a project for this along with a challenge idea and then research my own "old" projects to see if I can find something to fit with really does become quite the chore!!
I commend those who do run challenge blogs and guess I'm forgetting how cumbersome it can get!

- On a side note...this is just not my "forte" folks. When I was asked to make my "Flashback Friday" postings a challenge by a couple of readers, I was a bit hesitant and for this very reason.  I find that I mentally put too much pressure on myself for these type of things and it stops being fun for me. (I don't want to "run" out on my blog yet once again!)
*There are also other challenge blogs with the same sort of idea behind it...I've just 'named' mine different is all.*

Here's a list of other challenges with this idea in mind that I really enjoy participating in:
1.  Retro Rubber Challenge (fairly new - asking to use old stamps)

2.  Clear It Out (although they don't ask you to use a particular older item, the name of the challenge blog is pretty clear about using your "stash" items!)

3.  Shopping Our Stash (same principle as the above challenge.)

I always try and play along with these challenges whenever I can for this reason.
If there are any others that you know of, please let me know!

For those of you that have just found me or for those that have become a "regular" participant with these challenges, PLEASE continue to pull out your own forgotten/neglected stash!  I would STILL love to come see what you did!!  Just leave me a comment and I would be MORE THAN HAPPY to come and check it out!! :)

Of course I still plan on playing with my old stash and I will continue with that idea, but there will be no more challenges.  I'm so sorry if I have disappointed anyone.

I will leave you with this "flashback" and thank you for being special friends! :)
I truly appreciate each and every one of you that has supported me with this!

No worries - you encouraged me to start looking into my stash (both papers and especially my old stamps) so I thank you for that. I always marvel at how people run these challenges and really, there is sometimes no room for their own creativity to flow - I would miss you enormously if you were not here sharing what you create. So, friend, no worries and create something beautiful in your more relaxed space for creativity!!! Big Hugs

Vicki that is just priceless, such a sweet image!

Aww...don't feel bad! I'm sure there's A LOT of time that goes into it! I have a hard enough time keeping up with my posts and projects for my DT's! ;) You do whatever you need to and do what makes you happy! After all, this is why we blog our crafty creations, right?!...Stay happy and enjoy! :) Happy Friday!

Love your flashback Vicki!! The image is precious and I like the little shimmer around the edge! The soft feminine dps and flowers looks so pretty with her :) Have a great weekend!

i sooooooooo understand. been there, done that. not easy. hubby always said... if something you enjoy becomes like work, then it's time to give it up and go back to enjoying it.

stay warm!

What a precious image Vicki. Beautifully done.
I know what you mean, I haven't had a chance to play but was gearing up to it :). That is one of the reason I do not do design teams, it is to much pressure for me, always having to come up with ideas with dead lines :)..

Since I just discovered your Flashback Friday challenges a few days ago (thanks to the very kind comment you left on my Lawnscaping birthday card), I have to admit I'm a little disappointed to learn that you're discontinuing your challenges. But I understand how it can bring you down when it feels like work. I get that sometimes with the design teams I'm on. And I totally respect your need to keep it fun for yourself. There's no need for you to apologize for wanting to keep your sanity! :)

Thanks for the links to the other challenge blogs. I'll have to give them a try, and I hope to run into your work there! I don't want to come across as overly promotional by sharing links to other challenge blogs here, but if you're interested, they are linked on my personal blog, Thinking of Inking:

Another fantastic card, Vicki! I don't know how you do it... Always creating outstanding inspiration for us to feast our eyes on.
If running a challenge is not fun and too much pressure , then you need to stop and do what you love. You definitely have my vote to stop the challenges.

I totally understand Vicki, crafting should always be fun and not a chore.
Your card is gorgeous, such a sweet image and I love the colours.
I hope you have a good weekend.

Hi Vicki,
oh this is a great pity.
Sorry I didn't join in as I already do a similar thing on a Friday called Oldie for Friday.
If you would like to join us on a Friday with your Oldie it's all just for fun, but well worth bringing back some of your older creations.
If you would like more info you will find it on my blog.
Now to your very delightful card.
The design is very lovely and your image is beautiful.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

Totally get it -- having FUN is what this hobby is all about, not "working" :) Fun card you showed!

Beautiful card Vicki such a cutie image and wonderful card fold. Vicki don't be too hard on yourself you did an awesome job but it is a lot of pressure and it certainly is the time to call a halt when it becomes a chore rather that fun. You are both an amazing person and crafter I just love visiting you for you.

Your card is beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
I so totally understand too. When I first started blogging. I did a favorite Friday post...where I shared a lot the things that I had previously done, and lots of extra info. I think I did it for 14 or weeks, and then I realized it was so much work for me, that I wasn't enjoying it anymore and stopped.
Isn't the point of blogging supposed to be fun? smile.

Lovely card, Vicki. I like the colors you used here. And don't worry about canceling your challenge. You gave me the encouragement I needed to use up my older craft supplies. And, for that, I am extremely grateful. Also, your lovely blog is already an inspiring place for me. :) Happy creating and enjoy your weekend!

Beautiful card Vicki and I fully understand your reasons for stopping the challenges -I'm sure we didn't intend to put you under any pressure so crafting becomes a chore and not a pleasure and you haven't disappointed anyone

No worries here, I couldn't keep up just making a card! This is fun for us and when that stops, not good! But I love your card today! Thanks for trying!

I'm sorry to see it go, my dear friend, but I do understand. If you ever decide to revive it all or in part and you'd like to take on a partner to cut your stress load, call on me. :-D Love the step card, Vicki, and I think the green/ blue color combo is perfect for that sweet image!

Hi Vicki - first of all thanks for the shoutout - very appreciated! Second - stamping should be fun, not stressful! Doing all of this on your own requires a lot of time and effort - that's why challenges usually have a DT to distribute the load, so I totally understand why you can't do this anymore - I thought it was pretty awesome that you tried! And last, but not least - awesome card! Happy Friday, Sweetie!

Rhonda Miller said...

I can totally relate to the stress of running a challenge. It's more fun (and a lot less stressful) to share what you come up with.

I love the card.

Vicki, don't feel bad. Not all of us are meant to be so structured - me included! I would rather you post your creative projects as you feel led than to feel pressured and risk quitting your blog again!

Asha said...

Oh what a sweet card, Vicki. The little girls is just adorable. And stop beating yourself up over little things. Challenge or not, your projects are always inspirational and you give your best when you are having fun. Which means, you are obligated to have fun creating because we deserve your best! Hah! If that's not pressure to perform, I don't know what is! LOL. You're doing just GREAT, girl! Now go enjoy your weekend! <3
hugs, Asha

Vicki, I'm so sorry to see the challenge is closing but completely understand - totally! When things become a job it's time for a change.
There are only so many hours in the day to do things we love.
Fabulous card! Love that cute image and pretty, pretty color combination. Beautiful!

Sorry about the challenge- and know how it gets- I do the same thing....BUT, so happy you have encouraged me to look at all of my stash and get 'em out and use some of my neglected stamps. I hope to keep it up too!

Congratulations to you for recognizing that it wasn't going to keep being fun! A challenge is a huge amount of work and running it all by yourself...I can't imagine. And really, why do we create? Because we enjoy it. That's key.

This is so super cute and no, no one blames you for not keeping up this challenge. It is a lot of work and effort. Trying to find the time and then spending the time doing this when you could be making something instead will keep you much happier! Besides, you inspired us all to dig deep and use those forgotten stamps!
