Sunshine Smiles

Hello friends!  It's Finally Friday, we're here, you've made it!
It's Memorial Day weekend and we have some plans to work outside in our yard if weather is permitting.  We've got half of the garden planted and moving on to some flowers, landscaping and a patio!  Pretty ambitious for a weekend, huh?

Today, I wanted to share a card I made with one of the Simon Says Stamp card kits that I have stock piled up in my room and not being used!  I was determined to make something...
I just love how this one turned out!  I have used the SSS May 2016 card kit for my card today.  I did some masking with the cloud in the background by taking off the face from the cloud with masking tape and then I made an additional mask of the entire cloud so that I could sponge on some distress coloring for the blue sky area.  (I used Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean)

For the sun and the additional cloud, I stamped them onto a separate sheet of card stock, colored them in and fussy cut them out to arrange and pop up over my card design.  The sun was just glued down over the back cloud and then the front cloud was attached with foam tape.

I added a sentiment strip which was included with the kit along with the plaid papers, sentiment and sequins. (I cut my own fish tail end on the sentiment strip.)  Both the papers and the front white panel were cut out with the Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle (and large ones) dies.  If you like the plaid papers from the kit, they are also sold by Lawn Fawn as well!  CLICK HERE to see them all!  :)

Here's a close-up view of the sun and how I've colored it in.  I kept the cheeks a light pink color and added some white dots with my gel pen.  I see there are a few of the glitter specks that attached to his cheeks, but it looks like it adds a bit more sparkle to him.  I had some glitter in my stash and used it to cover the sun's cheeks and every other sun ray.

Hope you've enjoyed my inspiration today!
Thanks for stopping by and I wish you all a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Happy Mail Spotted

Hello friends!
Hope you are having a great week!  We are already half way through the week!
It's another Whimsy Stamps Wednesday, so I have another fun creation to share with you using some of their newest released products:
I think this is the only pup that I haven't used from the Playful Pups set that was released earlier this month.  LOL!  He's so cute and I say "he" because I added the gold bow underneath his neck.  You could easily change any of these pups to a "girl dog" by adding this bow (included with the stamp set) to the top of the head.  I fussy cut around him with a border, cut out the bow, colored with my gold pen and fussy cut that out to add to the pup. The pup was popped up with foam tape over the black circle.   I have also used the tiny hearts included with this set and embossed them with gold embossing powder over the black circle which I've cut out using the Whimsy Stamps Stitched Circles Die Set.  I also used it to cut out an open circle for part of the design on my card.

Of course I found the perfect papers in my stash to go with my spotted dog design, so I used those and attached it to a black 4" x 5- 1/4" piece of black card stock and put this onto an A2 sized white card base.  I have hoarded this gold ribbon for some time and decided to use some for my card to go with that fun doggie bow! :)

For the sentiment on my card, I have used the newest release sentiment set called From a Friend and embossed it on a piece of vellum with gold embossing powder.  I fussy cut around it and glued it to the card front.  I like how you can still see the card design through it.

So you haven't yet checked out the May release from Whimsy Stamps, CLICK HERE to see them all!!  There will be more coming next month, so be watching my blog! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by...I appreciate your support!

You Light Up My Life!

Hello friends!
Hope today finds you well!  The heat has finally come over my way which calls for me to turn on the air conditioning.  This also is the time of year in which it gets really busy for hubby and I outside to do some gardening and landscaping.  It has kept me so busy and tired lately that I haven't played too much in my craft room!  I plan to do some creating over the next few days as the weather is calling for some storms headed our way.

I have actually had the beginnings of this card on my desk from last week, but never got to finishing it up like I wanted to until yesterday, so I thought I'd share it today with you.
I hadn't gotten a chance to play with this set that I had won over at the Lawnscaping Challenge a few months back.  (I now just need to go get the coordinating dies to go with it!)  But this is the Lawn Fawn Life is Good stamp set that I've used on my card for today which I thought was very fitting for their current "Sparkle it Up:  use some shimmer & shine" challenge!

For the background of my card, I have used the Lawn Fawn Stripey Backdrop die and cut out a 4" x 5-1/4" piece with white card stock.  I used some metallic shiny red paper and cut it out again and used the stripes to inlay the pieces between the white panel which was attached to an A2 sized white card base.

For my shaker portion of my card, I have used the Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle Frames to make a frame for my shaker.  I also took the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables dies to cut out a piece of acetate along with the backing for my shaker area.  The backing is what I used to create the lighthouse scene by masking and coloring it in with my Copic markers.

Here you can better see the coloring that I've done.  I also added some glitter to the lighthouse light along with using my Wink of Stella glitter pen to go over the red stripes in the lighthouse along with the water.  I also stamped a couple of seashells, colored those in and fussy cut them out to pop up along the edge of my shaker frame.  I only added a couple of star sequins for my shaker so that it wouldn't cover up the scene I worked so hard on.  The sentiment banner was just stamped and I cut the fish tails on the ends and glued it in place so that it would pop out in the center.  I took a copic marker to go over the "brighten" word and then I cover that with Wink of Stella also.  I sponged around the edges of it and used my distress tool to rough it up.

Here's another view of the sparkle and shine in my card.  Hopefully you can see it a bit!  I also covered those sea shells with my Wink of Stella too!

Thanks so much for dropping in with me today!  Hope you've enjoyed my inspiration and I'll be back again tomorrow to share more! :)  Have a great day!

Time Out for Sandie's Birthday!

Hello friends!  Hope you all had a great weekend!
I think I'm worn out from the crafty festivities I had!! LOL!!

Just popping in here today to share a special card I made for a fellow blogger's 50th birthday!
(CLICK HERE or the badge to be taken to the Link-Up post!)
Kylie is hosting a special "Link-Up Party" over on her blog in Sandie's honor.  There is also a special challenge over at the TIME OUT challenge blog in her honor as well!

I have been on the ATSM design team with her and thought I would join in the birthday fun too!    I wasn't on the team with Sandie for too long, but what I DO know of her, I know that she likes the color purple, like myself, and also that she likes butterflies...so of course this was no problem to put together a card for her:
I've actually had this layout in my head for a while and just hadn't got the time to try it out until now!  I have used the MFT "Wonky Chevron" stencil and some distress inks to sponge the background of the card.  I used my Whimsy Stamps Stitched Circle Die to cut an opening along the edge of the card front so that the circle went off the edge.  (This created a "see-through" design.)

Here's the card when it's shut or laid flat:
I pulled out my "Butterfly Birthday" stamp set from Happy Little Stampers and white embossed a butterfly over a piece of eggplant card stock.  I used the coordinating "Butterfly Dies" to cut it out and then glued the center of the butterfly to the INSIDE of the card so that it fits through the circle opening on the front. The sentiment comes from the same stamp set which I white embossed over another strip of eggplant card stock.  I made a fish tail cut on the end of it and attached it underneath the circle opening and finished off the card with some clear enamel glitter dots.

Here's a closer look of the shimmer details:
I've used my Wink of Stella clear glitter pen to color in the open areas of the butterfly as well as the strip on the sentiment panel.  I think it gives it a nice subtle shimmer.

Wishing Sandie a very happy 50th birthday!  (I know my card will be so late as it has a ways to travel to her, but hope she enjoys it just the same!)  :)

Thanks so much for dropping by friends!  See you tomorrow!

#1 Grill Master is Tagged!

Hello friends!
Welcome to the start of the weekend!  Do you have any plans?
I have some plans for a fun weekend with friends and crafting...more projects away from my comfort zone, but it's always fun to try and learn new things, right?!  If anything I make is "decent", I may be brave enough to post!  :)

So with Father's Day approaching, I know that I will need to make up a few cards for all of the fathers that are in my life including my own father.  I also wanted to be sure to play along with a challenge that will be ending very shortly:
I think this stamp set from Newton's Nook called Winston's BBQ is too cute!  Besides the Doxie stamps they have, I think Winston is probably my next fave!  I have stamped him on a stitched tag that I've die cut out and then I took some striped paper from my stash and paper pieced his apron with it.  To cover up the pocket on the front, I used my white gel pen and shaded around it with my Copic markers.

The background lettering was stamped using some sentiments from the same stamp set with white ink over Kraft card stock.  I matched up the striped papers for the strip with the base of my card.  I topped the tag with some white ribbon and linen thread and then popped the tag up over the card with some foam dots.

I've used Copics to color in Winston and then used the white gel pen to cover up his striped paper pocket on the front of his apron.  I've also used a silver gel pen to color in his spatula and the trimming along his pocket.  The grass was flicked on with several Copic markers.

Hope you've enjoyed my card today and I wish you all a wonderful and happy weekend!
Thanks for dropping in!

Whimsy Stamps May New Release - Day 3 Inspiration! (Final Day!)

Welcome back friends!
Today is the final day, DAY 3, of the Whimsy Stamps (Clearly Whimsy Stamps edition) May NEW RELEASE!
Starting with Monday, May 9th, along with yesterday and today, I am sharing inspiration with you for each new clear stamp set and Shapeology craft dies that are being released this month which will be available for purchase at the Whimsy Stamps store starting TODAY!!!!
Yay!  Time to go shopping!!!

In case you may have missed any of my prior inspiration posts:

Monday, May 9th Post (Day 1 inspiration) - "Playful Pups" + "Additions set", "From a Friend" and "Hand Stitched Border" dies

Tuesday, May 10th Post (Day 2 inspiration) - "Punny Messages", "Sweetest Birthday" and Shapeology "Shaker Builder" die set.

For today's inspiration, it's a "Designer's Choice" to create something using any of the May's New Release products.  I wanted to try out another one of those cute pups again for my design:
So I decided to create a bit of a story board here.  As you can see, the pup was getting a bit 'ruff' with his bunny and knocked over the flower pot as you can see from the trailing foot prints! LOL!  Then there is evidence of the dirt on portions of his bunny as well!
He didn't mean it and he's sorry of course!  :)

To make the grassy stitched lines, I have used the Whimsy Stamps Shapeology Stitched Border dies and for the "thought/speech" bubble, I have also used the WS Speech Bubble Border die to emboss with black for the sentiment at the top.  I also stamped a couple more of those foot prints along the side of the sentiment.

The sky for both portions was done with the distress inks and foam blending tool.  I have used a retired cloud die from Whimsy Stamps to add a couple of clouds to the sky behind the pup.  Everything was colored with my Copic markers.  The pup and bunny were fussy cut and popped out on the design with foam tape.  I cut a portion of the bunny's hand so it looked like it was caught in the pup's mouth.

Here's another view of the card:
Here you can see how I've colored the pup along with the coloring of the "dirt" on the bunny.  The sentiment on the speech bubble was stamped with black pigment ink and embossed with clear EP.

So I hope you've enjoyed all of my inspiration during this New Release week!

Whimsy Stamps May New Release - Day 2 Inspiration!

Hello friends!
Welcome to DAY 2 of the Whimsy Stamps (Clearly Whimsy Stamps edition) May NEW RELEASE!
Starting Monday, May 9th, today and tomorrow, I will be sharing inspiration with you for each new clear stamp set and Shapeology craft dies that are being released this month which will be available for purchase at the Whimsy Stamps store starting this WEDNESDAY, May 11th!

Monday, May 9th Post (Day 1 inspiration) - Playful Pups + Additions set, From a Friend and Hand Stitched Border dies

So please join me here every day including the Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Blog for a peek at each set with some inspiration & of course special prize opportunities!

Today we are introducing "Punny Messages", "Sweetest Birthday" and Shapeology "Shaker Builder" die set. Here is what they look like:

For my first card, I have used the above "Punny Messages" as well as  the Shapeology "Hand Stitched Border" dies from yesterday's new release post:
I think the whales in this set are absolutely adorable and I knew I wanted to color them in right away when I saw it!  I thought it would be fun to also make a "wavy" border using the fun "Hand Stitched Border" dies from yesterday's new release post.  (Remember that these dies do NOT cut anything on your paper, but they leave a fun stitched mark detail instead!)  I have used the scallop stitched border die on the different shades of blue card stock and then used my scissors to fussy cut around the scallop stitch marks.  I have also used it to make a couple of lines on the vellum portion at the bottom.

I used my distress ink and foam blending tool for the yellow color behind the waves.  The whales were colored in with my Copic markers.  I've added some dot detail with the darker gray shades of Copics and also with my white gel pen.  I covered the whale's "blow hole water" with glitter and then fussy cut the whales.  I tucked them just barely behind the vellum piece and popped them up with foam tape.  Lastly, I just stamped the "punny" sentiment with black ink in the corner.

Here's a closer view of the card:
You can better see the details of the coloring along with the subtle shimmer over the vellum that I covered with the Wink of Stella glitter pen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For my second card today, I have used the "Sweetest Birthday" clear set along with the Shapeology "Shaker Builder" die set:
So I thought that just in the name itself, it implies that you make a shaker card...so of course that's what I wanted to do!  I just love this beautiful scalloped frame and thought I would use this entire area to make a fun birthday shaker design!

The insert that gets cut out when you die cut the scallop frame was also used on my card for the background of this shaker design.  I used some distress inks with my foam blending tool to make this fun "cotton candy" looking background.  I also used some water in a spray bottle for the splatter distress look to the background.  The smaller type sentiments were also stamped on the background and I had to do this very carefully because the word "birthday" was die cut with Chocolate Chip card stock over the acetate which is glued on.  So I had to do that before stamping the sentiment in the blended ink background.

The cupcake was also die cut out with the same set.  I added some lines with my marker over the cupcake bottom portion for dimension.  I've also die cut the cherry and tucked it inside the first die cut line on the frosting portion.

To make my shaker, I have attached the blended ink background onto a larger piece of white card stock that would cover the back of my frame size.  I just used strips of foam tape to pop up the scallop frame with acetate.  I then added various colors of sequins inside that I thought would help match up the background of my design and attached the background piece to seal it up.  The cupcake was just glued in the corner.

Here's a closer look at some of the details:
You can better see the details of the cupcake and frame here where I have used a specialty shimmer paper for the shaker frame as well as the frosting portion that was die cut.
I have also used some wink of stella over my cherry and then covered it with some glossy accents.  The frosting portion of the cupcake was also popped up with some foam tape before attaching it to the bottom portion of the cupcake.

Be sure to pop over to the Whimsy Stamps blog  to see a peek at the creations with links to the other guest designer's and design team's blogs. There will be chances to win prizes, so make sure you join in today and every day for all the new release festivities!

I hope you've enjoyed my inspiration today!
Thanks so much for dropping by and I'll see you again tomorrow!  :)

Whimsy Stamps May New Release - Day 1 Inspiration!

Hello friends!
Whimsy Stamps (Clearly Whimsy Stamps edition) NEW RELEASE is here!
Today and every day for the next THREE days, I will be sharing inspiration with you for each new clear stamp set and Shapeology craft dies that are being released this month which will be available for purchase at the Whimsy Stamps store starting this WEDNESDAY, May 11th!

So please join me here every day including the Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Blog for a peek at each set with some inspiration & of course special prize opportunities!

Today we are introducing "Playful Pups" with the "Additions" set (add on) along with "From a Friend" and the Shapeology "Hand Stitched Border" dies.  Here's what they look like:

For my first card, I have used both the "Playful Pups" and the "Add On" clear sets:
These pups are too stinkin' CUTE and I just had a blast coloring in these cute critters!  Here, I have made a fun scene using my distress inks for the background.  I have sprayed it with water to make the splatter effect on it.  I cut it out with the Whimsy Stamps Shapeology "Hand Stitched Nested Rectangles".  I've also cut out a strip of green card stock using the same die I used on the background, but then I also took the Whimsy Shapeology "Pierced Border Trio" dies to cut the grassy hill that the pup is sitting on.

I then stamped all of the images, colored them with my Copic markers and fussy cut them out to arrange them on my scene.  I stamped the ball and then inked it up in the background with some gray colored ink to make it look like the ball is being thrown to him.  It actually looks like the ball is getting ready to hit him on the head!! LOL!  Anyway, I was trying to create some motion with the image by using generation stamping.  The ball and the pup are popped up with foam tape.

Here is a closer view of the images.  You can better see the greeting in this photo that I have embossed the sentiment in black.  For the sign on the dog house, I stamped one of the sentiments from the "Playful Pups" set and then punched it out to size and added some sponging and the black dots with my black gel pen.  I then popped it up over the dog house with foam tape.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

For my second creation today, I have used the "From a Friend" and the Shapeology "Hand Stitched Border" dies:
For this card, I made a fun background using the dies.  Now, keep in mind that with this die set, they DO NOT cut anything out, instead, they make for some really cool hand-stitched lines on your paper.  I love the look of the wonky lines with them!  (I will be using these again tomorrow, so be sure to drop back by to see them used in a different way!)

For my colored strip, I've used the "Bokeh" technique with the Whimsy Stamps Circles, Circles, Circles clear stamp set.  I find that just stamping the solid circles rather than using a stencil is much easier and less messy to deal with.  I've also added some splatters with a brush and some Frost White Fantastix ink.  I then gold embossed the sentiment from the new "From a Friend" stamp set over a strip of vellum, wrapped it around the card front and then added some gold sequins.

Here's a closer view of the design:
I have popped up the "Bokeh" strip with craft foam before adding the strip of embossed vellum.  You can better see the shimmer from the ink I splattered.  The colors I've used to stamp the circles are Stampin' Up! Crisp Canteloupe, White, MFT Peach Bellini and Gold inks.  (I also blended the peach colors together in the background before stamping.)

Be sure to pop over to the Whimsy Stamps blog  to see a peek at the creations with links to the other guest designer's and design team's blogs. There will be chances to win prizes, so make sure you join in today and every day for all the new release festivities!
