Charmed With a Mixed Media Tag for Cute Card Thursday

Hello friends!
I hope you are having a wonderful week so far!  As has been the usual, I've been really busy in my stamp room creating and trying to catch up on all of my projects! :)

I wanted to swing by today and share one of those projects for the new challenge at
This week's challenge is using "charms" on your project!
We look forward to seeing your pretty creations!

So for some reason all of the sudden, I decided to get hooked on tags!  Not just a cute little tag to add to a Christmas present, but dabbling around in the mixed media style tags:
I have had a package of large manilla tags for years.  I get one out once in a while, but lately I've seen so many cool looking mixed media type tags and I wanted to join in on the fun too...so I pulled another one of them out to play!

For the background of my tag, I have used some old printed text page and attached to the very back of it.  Over that, I took some Tim Holtz tissue paper and ripped up some pieces to attach over top of the text print.  Since I used the Ranger Matte Medium to afix it down, I could only use ink along the edges of the printed paper.  Over top of the tissue paper in the center, I used some acrylic paint and blended it with my baby wipe.  I added some Vintage Photo distress ink along the edges and then took my Ranger black archival ink and stamped the lace image in various places and then used the same ink pad to go around the edges of the tag.  I also used the same distress ink to color the ribbon and portions of the flower.

For the butterfly and scroll underneath, they were die cuts from my stash.  I used some Antique Gold embossing powder to heat set it into the cut dies a couple of times.  The embossing powder left some "chunks" in places that I thought was sort of cool.  I took some Nuvo Black mousse and rubbed over those spots on the dies to highlight those bumps a bit more.

Here's a closer view of the details:
I had a metal flower charm with no loop at the top like they usually are, so this is the one that I glued down over the embossed scroll.  I attached it in the middle at the top and then filled the center of the flower with some gold Stickles.

BTW, both of the charms that I've used on this were originally shinny silver, so I changed the color of them by covering them with some gold alchohol ink.  (You can see the "wish" charm at the top of the tag threaded through the gold thread near the tag hole.)

I finished off my tag with some Tim Holtz ephemera snippets, stapled lace (colored with Vintage Photo ink) and drops of gold Stickles.  I also put some of the gold Stickles in the center of the paper flower at the bottom.  I used the same Vintage Photo on bits of my seam binding ribbon before I attached it to the tag.

I'm thinking I have some future ideas for more tags...so be on the look-out! :)

I hope you will stop by the Cute Card Thursday blog and check out the rest of the inspiration from the design team and add your creation this week in the gallery!!

Thanks so much for dropping in today!
I will be back shortly with more creations! YAY!!

What a fabulously gorgeous tag Vicki! A really wonderful design. Love the embossed butterfly and scroll, they look like they're made of metal. The colours you've used together look lovely. The little details you've added like the wish charm and flower charm, cleverly changed in colour and the other embellishments finish your tag off beautifully. I'd love to try this one day. Debra x

Ooo, I love how you embossed the die cuts with that glorious gold EP, Vicki! I'm not much on making tags but this one pleases me greatly. Who knows, you may even have inspired me to dig through my stash of manila tags. :-D
